@fireborn @celtichawk @jamminjerry what sound system do you use by default? If alsa, this probably pulled in pulse or pipewire. That requires a little setup.

Updated install_nvda.sh to use the internal winetricks.

Billingr, the #Dwarf #Pirate, has attained level 75! #EoT http://eotmud.com/

I just got a CPR and first aid certification. Hopefully this is something I will never need to use, but if so, I will be prepared.

I got to hold Dembe, our new bearded dragon, earlier today. It has been just over a week since we got him, and he’s now comfortable with being held and petted. He relaxed on my shoulder and sniffed my shirt. Fortunately he decided I wwasn’t edible.

He’s a very cool little critter. His tail is extremely long. Bearded dragons are sometimes difficult to tell what gendor they are. So if he lays an egg one day, I’ll be switching to she instead lol. For now, however, he exhibits characteristics of being a male bearded dragon.

I am back from making balloon animals for the Light Up Down Town festival. It got cold out there, my hands are almost thawed now, but typing still feels a bit weird lol.

It was a lot of fun, lots and lots of happy children and even some happy adults too. The temperature was something like 34F.

@celtichawk @bgtlover unfortunately not really. If someone would make a TTYtter for Pleroma and Mastodon, that would solve the client issue once and for all. So far, no such luck though.

@celtichawk @bgtlover have you tried brave-bin from the AUR? My tests with pinafore went quite well with it.

It’s almost burger time. Getting the Bacon King. I can’t wait, those are awesome! unfortunately they don’t have full lettuce leaves, and I have no low carb buns, but it’s still gonna rock.

We are dealing with an electrical problem that started on last Friday. The breaker that handles the living room and all three bedrooms started kicking off over and over again. The electrician came yesterday, and thought it might be one of the power strips we use, so we unplugged it, and it stayed on just long enough for him to say “Ok, that was probably it.”

As his car was leaving the driveway, it clicked off again. He says the problem may be in the wiring itself, but he is booked up for the next two weeks. So, two more weeks of sharing the outlets in the kitchen and bathroom.

On the bright side, at least the router and the pi server are back online. I asked the electrician if I could plug in a surge protector using one of those orange extension cords, and he said it was fine, just don’t trip over it.

Funnily enough, the automatic responses that popped up as a possible reply included “Why not?”

Finally got Dragon Pong working.

Just got certified in CPR and first aid. Hopefully I will never need it, but if so, I should be prepared.

@fastfinge yeah, backups are important. My setup is pretty simple though. I have a pi4 server, so once a week or so I just clone the sd card.

Mail is a bit more involved, because you can’t run it from home. If you do, you will be labeled as spam by large providers no matter what, so it’s on a vps. Some vps providers do offer an image backup.

A setup script/program would have to incorporate some sort of backup option eventually. maybe just database copying to an offsite location, it’s definitely something worth thinking about. Maybe I’ll actually start writing something and see how far it gets. Letting the large providers handle stuff for you is a perfectly valid way of doing things, but for those who want to do it themselves, an easy setup option could be a good thing.

@celtichawk I haven’t used mail in a box myself, so I can’t say from experience. I have a friend, however, who uses it and loves it.

Added translate-shell to the -c flag.

@celtichawk Setting email up to not get marked as spam is where the difficulty comes from. It takes txt records, and a few other hoops. Of course Gmail will mark most things that are not gmail as spam, but G hasn’t been a good internet citizen in years, so not surprising.

With the right dns provider, however, that the records could even be handled through the api, so that could be scripted as well.

I got to thinking; self-hosted is the way to go for pretty much everything. It’s awesome to host your own social network, your own blog, your own email, etc. The problem comes from not everyone being technically inclined enough to set all this stuff up, and/or, not having the time to do so.

I wonder why there are no install everything programs out there? Or, maybe even a distro with a configure script that runs when you login for the first time that configures everything.

I have heard there is one for email, which is particularly difficult to set up, called mail in a box. There needs to be something more over all, something that sets up everything and makes the process easy.

@fireborn when you do pull requests, can you create a different branch for each one, and only request one thing per branch? The last batch has some tangles with things that are already in master, and basically we are adding in things manually because it's easier this way. With single pulls per branch, it should make it much easier to do this in the future.
